In accordance with federal and state requirements, CNA classes in Florida require their students to complete a total of 120 hours of study between in-class study and hands-on, clinical skills training. Finishing an accredited certified nursing program will usually take a full-time student 8 to 13 weeks. The majority of programs require their applicants to be at least 18 years old and have either a high school diploma or GED. Certain institutions will have their own additional requirements as well.
Upon completion of a CNA training course, students are eligible to sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP). There is a two-year window in which a student must pass this test and earn his or her certification. In order to secure employment, it is required by the state that a nursing assistant be registered with the Florida Certified Nurse Aide Registry.
