Per federal and state requirements, CNA classes in Arkansas must include a minimum of 75 hours of coursework in basic health care principles, as well as at least 15 additional hours of clinical instruction. On average, CNA training with an accredited program can be finished in 6 to 12 weeks if the student maintains full-time status. Admission requirements for state-approved CNA schools generally requires the applicant to be at least 16 years of age and to have completed high school with either a diploma or GED equivalent. Some programs hold additional requirements.
After graduating from an approved program, prospective certified nurses aides are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) at any time in the next two years. A passing score on both the skills demonstration and written/oral exam portions of the test is required for certification. Eligibility for employment as a CNA in the state requires the individual to be currently listed in, and in good standing with the Arkansas Certified Nurse Aide Registry.
