The Maine Department of Health and Human Services and federal guidelines require CNA classes in Maine to feature a curriculum of at least 180 hours of training. These hours are to include 90 hours of in-class study and a minimum of 70 hours of clinical practice. On average, this training will require 8 to 13 weeks to finish for full-time students. There may additional requirements as well for certain programs.
Certification in the State of Maine requires CNA candidates to successfully pass both the multiple-choice and skills demonstration portions of the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) within two years of completing their training courses. Should an individual fail to accomplish this in the set time frame, it will be necessary to repeat all training from the start. Securing employment additionally requires a person to be listed in the Maine Certified Nurse Aide Registry.
